 Bled Castle

IMG_7307 (1).jpeg

A picture that won’t easily escape your memory: a romantic lake with an island, dominated by a mighty castle on a steep cliff. It was first mentioned in written records in 1011, but only the Romanesque castle wall and the entrance tower have been preserved from that era. The dynamic castle buildings date to the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Bled Castle will impress you with an astonishing view, a smithy, a printing press, a Knight's Hall, and a castle chapel. At the castle, visitors can also taste local dishes.

 Predjama Castle

This is a unique Slovenian castle that will take your breath away. The level of its preservation and its unusual location are quite fascinating. The castle was built almost 800 years ago in this dizzying location. One of its most famous residents was the rebel knight Erazem Predjamski, who also knew of a hidden tunnel in a karst cave behind the mighty castle, which led to the surface and thence to food. Legend has it that his ghost now haunts the castle.

Rajhenburg Castle stands on a rocky prominence overlooking the confluence of the restanica stream and river Sava. It is one of Slovenia's most important medieval builtmonuments. It was built between 1131 and 1147, by Konrad I Archbishop of Salzburg. For centuries, the building and its estate were managed by ministerial knights whotook castle Rajhenburg's name - Rajhenburški (knights of Rajhenburg).

Through the centuries, the family grew ever more powerful and was elevated to the rank of knights. After the Rajhenburgs died out, a line of subsequent owners added new elements to the castle structure lending the building the appearance we can admire today.

One of the central and most distinct attractions of the capital city is most certainly its Castle, which offers an unforgettable view of Ljubljana and its broader surroundings. In clear weather, you can climb up its panoramic tower, rising 400 metres above sea level, from where you will be able to see a third of Slovenia. As renovations at the Castle have been taking place for many years, new hidden rooms inside and under the magnificent building keep surprising us with new experiences.

Ljubljana is the green capital of a green country. The image of the town by a river with picturesque bridges and a marketplace was designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik. The town of a thousand events is surrounded by parks and natural protected areas.

A magnificent fortified castle that reigns on the hill above the city for centuries will leave you speechless when you see it from afar. It represents one of the most important medieval castles in Slovenia from the 12th century. It was ruled by the Dynasty of Celje, whose strongest and most influential representative was Herman II. During his reign, Celje reached the peak of their glory, successfully joined the European political summit and associated themselves with the most important noble families of the time. In 1436 Sigismund of Luxemburg, the Duke of Luxembourg raised two representatives of the Celje family to be princes - Friderik II. and Ulrik II. Twenty years later, with the death of the last male offspring of the Celje family, one of the most important periods of the Celje history ended.

Even today, their castle, the country’s largest medieval fort, rises above the town. You can visit it any day in the year. You can feel the joy of life in the old town, and just like the Counts enjoy all the good things. Have a look in the Tourist Information Centre and find information about the museums, galleries, city districts and trails that lead from the centre to the green hinterland of Celje. Or would you prefer to be impressed by the exhibition about the Counts of Celje, pose in the Pelikan Photo Atelier or rather explore the heritage of ancient Celeia named “Troia Secunda” (the second Troy).
